A routine elevator ride in China nearly turned deadly after a malfunctioning lift suddenly plummeted like a drop tower amusement park ride, injuring three passengers, as seen in a dramatic CCTV clip.

“Everything was spinning. We were all thrown in the air before crashing onto the floor,” Li, one of the riders, told Newsflare while recounting the terrifying plunge.

The heart-stopping incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 26, while he and two other passengers boarded the lift in the city of Changsha in Hunan Province.

Li, who lived on the 25th floor, recalled how the elevator “stopped while descending.”

“It got stuck and wouldn’t budge,” explained the petrified passenger, who added that the lift started swaying upon reaching the fourth floor.

At that point, the flustered rider tried pressing buttons for other floors but to no avail, as all the lights on the control panel went out.

All of a sudden, the lift took a plunge.

In the accompanying footage, the elevator can be seen descending, hurtling all three passengers into the air with one hitting the ceiling like some sort of null gravity device.

The footage concludes with the riders huddled on the ground nursing their wounds.

Li subsequently contacted both property management and emergency services, who transported the three victims to the hospital.

Fortunately, Li only suffered minor bruises to his leg; however, another passenger reportedly sustained two fractured lumbar bones and is still receiving treatment.

The status of the third passenger remains unclear.

The victim’s relatives claim it was lucky the catastrophe wasn’t worse.

“Had there been elderly or children inside the elevator at the time, I dread to think what could have happened,” said a passenger named Wu, who is the wife of the rider with broken bones.

She claimed that residents had previously reported problems with the elevator to the property bosses.

However, a management representative claimed that their team responded swiftly to the scene and cooperated with the fire department, adding that they also deployed six people to accompany the victims to the hospital.

They also pledged to foot the bill for all medical expenses stemming from the accident, according to Newsflare.

Meanwhile, a day after the catastrophe, a representative for the Otis Elevator Company — which manufactured said lift — stated that technicians had been sent to examine and repair the machinery.

The cause of the malfunction remains unclear.

In a more frightening lift experience in 2022, a Russian man barely escaped decapitation after dodging malfunctioning doors like Indiana Jones avoiding a booby trap, as seen in a nail-biting clip.
